Google Professional Individual Certification for Adwords, Analytics…..
This week I completed both the Fundamentals exam and the Advanced Display exam to become individually Google Certified. Basically its an exam to take to earn an accreditation from Google to say you are Adwords capable. Is it worth the $150 bucks ( it took me 2 goes for the fundamentals exam)? I would say it was still worth it. Internet advertising is still on the up and its best to try and stay ahead of the pack when it comes to the field.
To become Google Certified, one must pass first the Fundamentals exam which is multiple choice. Sounds easy right? Well not really, It is 120 multiple choice questions in 120 minutes with the pass rate set at 85%. Many of the questions have multiple possible answers with one being just more right than the others. So my first piece of advice would be to mark any question you are in anyway unsure of. Once you mark a question you can continue on and review it at the end. The first time I took the exam I didn’t review anything, possible over confident and I failed! The second time I would estimate I reviewed around 15 to 20 questions.
After completing the Fundamentals exams, one must pass one of 3 advanced exams (Advanced Search, Advanced Display or Reporting&Analysis). I chose to do the Advanced Display but plan on going back and passing the other two exams in due time. The advanced exam have a much smaller scope for studying but it is important to try and remember what you learnt in Fundamentals as this is also covered. This exam was again 120 minutes with 110 multiple choice questions to undertake. I chose the Advanced Display module as it was the area I felt weakest on and so of greatest benefit to me.
Other tips I would give are to study the learning center material. I even printed it off and studied it the old fashioned way with my highlighter. If nothing else an accreditation from Google looks good on a CV. I would recommend taking the exams to anyone working in adwords. The individual certification requires no minimum spend on your part so it is open to anyone with an interest in Adwords and Analytics. I learnt a lot of new information that I am sure I will apply to my Adwords campaigns.
If you have any questions about the exams please feel free to leave a comment and a contactable email and I would be happy to answer as best possible.

Hi William, Great to see your Google Individual Certified
I’m currently Studying to be Google Individual Certified as well. Like you I downloaded the documents & printed them out. I’m half way through Fundamentals & then I’m going onto Advanced Search. Quick question for you – how long did you study before you took the exams? Thanks Glen. (I also just followed you on twitter).
Hey,
I took about a week to cover the fundamentals course. I studied the suggested reading for it in depth and then quickly went over the rest. There is a level of self thinking involved and elements that you may not have covered in the reading so I found it good to get a complete over view.
Then only a couple of days for the advanced exam as its a lot smaller but more detailed. I found the advanced course to be easier than the fundamentals but everyone is different.
The main thing is to be adept at using Adwords and campaign set up, audience targeting and optimization. Make sure you give yourself enough time as once you have started you can’t pause. And your computer will more than likely be locked so you won’t be able browse the internet or anything.
Any other questions sure give me a shout. Good luck and hope it goes well for you.
Will
Cheers Will for the info. Prob gonna take me a bit longer as I’m going to be studying in the evening & one day at the weekend.
Tks for the feedback, appreciate it.
