Improving Your SEO
I thought I would write a short post on the subject of SEO and in particular the most basic tips I can think of to improve your site’s Search Engine Optimization.
1: Simple….good quality content. It seems obvious but the amount of websites than rehash wither stuff they have seen somewhere else is huge. If you are writing a book you want people to read, you would try to make it longer than 3 pages right. Same principle, give users good quality information and try and make it as unique as you can.
2: Links. Both internal and external links help boost your SEO. But everyone should be using internal links so I won’t speak on that. You should aim to get credible external links ( links on other sites to yours). Google and other search engines are getting quite adept at rooting out non-credible links. A credible incoming link is one from a site in good standing related to your site in some way. For example a link from a hotel to a taxi service is useful as the hotel’s guests may find having access to a taxi company a useful resource. The easiest way test this is put yourself in the shoes of a visitor to your site. Would you find benefit in the link you are proposing?
3:Title Tag. Again really simple. You should use keywords in your site title.
4:Meta-tags. Make them relevant and not too long and these have a positive effect on your SEO.
5:Create a blog. Its free and easy. Especially good if you are struggling for content ideas. Try an post every couple of days. Its a great way to attract people to your site and at the same time build links by commentating on other blogs etc.
The last thing I will say is even if you think you have your SEO done, don’t. Its an ongoing process that never stops. You can always improve and at the very least maintain your position.
